Sexy Actresses Through the Ages

Sexy actresses are sometimes defined as porn stars. However, there are many traditional actresses that are considered very sexy, who have never even taken off their clothes. Actresses come in all shapes and sizes, and what one person would consider sexy, another might not. Some people like women with full figures and large breasts, while others think that women with a boyish figure are far sexier. Some actresses are sexy in spite of not having what is considered traditional beauty. Mae West, today, would not be considered conventionally beautiful, but to watch her perform in a movie, one can almost feel the animal magnetism she held over her audiences.
When you look over the decades, you can see that what defined one generation’s idea of a sexy actress, for example, the 1920s flapper, in other decades was found to be ludicrous. In the 1930s, Jean Harlow defined sexy, and blonde hair was all the rage. In the 1940s, Rita Hayworth, with her long red hair, was the all-time favorite pin-up girl, whose posters flew on many missions with overseas soldiers fighting in the Second World War.
The 1950s found that sexy women were defined by their figures, preferably the hourglass, such as Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. Actresses dressed alluringly, but at the same time, stayed conservative by not displaying a lot of skin, except in strapless evening gowns.
Then, along came the 1960s. Twiggy was the sexy, favored fashion model, while Goldie Hawn danced in a bikini across our television in the show “Laugh-In.” At the same time, classic actresses such as Brigitte Bardot and Raquel Welch had the curvy figures that kept people staring.
In later generations, one major change in women that came from both movies and television was the need to be thin. Thin was definitely in during the 1970s, portrayed by Farah Fawcett, with that timeless, sexy hair. Faye Dunaway was the runaway favorite for the decade, running through Bonnie & Clyde, while Catherine DeNeuve kept the classic look going. Cher, coupled with Sonny, brought out the hippie girl, but later turned into a fantastic, sexy actress appearing at the Academy Awards in a nearly nude outfit that stunned the press.
The 1980s brought us Kim Basinger, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Sigourney Weaver, and who could ever forget Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone. In the 1990s, no one could better define sexy actress than Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, sitting across from Michael Douglas, being interrogated in a man’s shirt, while Halle Barry brought black women to center stage, not just with her acting skills, but by simply being timelessly sexy.

By the turn of the century, sexy was embodied in Angelina Jolie, and women raced to get their lips filled for that ‘just kissed’ puffy look. Salma Hayek was also in the line up, with a fantastic figure and incredible acting skills.
In the 2010’s, there are many new and upcoming actresses ready to do their best to become the standard for sexy, like Megan Fox, so keep an eye out for their sex appeal across the big screen.
